While the sighting itself was brief, the birds are familiar residents rather than unexpected visitors. Quail have been consistently present on the property since our family moved here approximately six years ago, becoming one of the ranch’s informal seasonal markers. Long-term pattern Over the years, their presence has helped mark the rhythm of the seasons: - Increased visibility during spring and early summer. - Noticeably fewer sightings as autumn progresses. - Their absence or reduced activity often serves as a natural signal that winter is approaching. Like the returning wildflowers, migrating birds, or the first frogs after a rain, the quail have become part of the property’s living calendar. —HTR
What was observed
Four to five quail were reported on May 25, at approximately 3:00 PM.
About this record
These seasonal patterns come from years of informal observation. Watching times and effort varied, so fewer sightings do not tell us whether fewer birds were present. The birds were recorded as quail; the species has not been confirmed.
