Field Note No. 032
Keeper of the Night Shift
From the field note
As daylight disappeared, the daytime observers gave way to the night shift. The ducks settled near the water. The birds returned to their nests. The rabbit disappeared into cover. Then the toad emerged. Small enough to overlook. Important enough not to. Not every steward of the land wears feathers or fur. Some arrive after dark and quietly spend the night consuming insects beneath the glow of a shop light. —HTR
