Ground Level
From the field note
Today was spent low to the ground. Bare feet in the grass. Small yellow wildflowers pushing through cracked edges of concrete. Wind moving unevenly through overgrowth while the pasture held heat beneath the surface. I walked the property slowly enough to feel where the soil changed beneath my feet — where it softened, where it compacted, where water likely settles after rain. Observation feels different at ground level. Less like ownership. More like introduction. The land does not reveal itself all at once. It asks for patience first. Maybe restoration begins there too: not by forcing change onto the land, but by learning how to move through it carefully enough to hear what it needs. Some transformations begin at ground level. —HTR
