Field Note No. 041

Grackle Congregation — Rain, Foraging & Habitat Use

From the field note

They are always here. That wasn't what made me stop. It was how many. The trees seemed full of them this morning—dark shapes tucked between green branches, dropping into the grass, lifting again, gathering on the wires before returning to the trees. Maybe the rain brought something closer to the surface. Maybe it didn't. For now, the land has only given us the first clue. Next rain, we watch again. —HTR
